Middle Syndicate Cross Country

Last Thursday we did the cross country at Fairfield Park. On Wednesday night I was about to fall asleep on the couch when i got startled by my sissy (she said"Burpy lets bounce on the trampoline"). Well I couldn't hear of course, I was listening on my stereo! I fell asleep and my mum carried me to my bed. The problem was that I sometimes got woken up by my neighbour's dog barking. This night though I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to see what was going on. There was something else that I was worrying about too - the stereo! I could actually hear it. Nah, it's just the neighbours I thought. In the morning I ate breakfast, did my Kumon (it was simple - it looked like this 872579x7=). Well I got that right - it might look hard but it is very easy! I had my shower and got dressed into my spike shoes (the spikes are pretty sharp!). It was 10 to 9 and I went to school and into class.
Finally the bell rang for lunch and I hardly ate anything. When lunch was over we lined up like the other classes and we set off to Fairfield Park. I felt like this race was going to be random! First it was the year4 boys and Mr F said "go to the start line." I felt good!
On your marks...set...GO!!
I absolutely ran my guts out. The race was weird. At the start I was coming 5th until Todd tripped up. I was right behind him and i had no choice but to run right over hi back in my spikes!! In the end when the race was finished i came second.

Ronald visits the Middle Syndicate

On Thursday the 3rd of June Ronald McDonald came to promote the My greatest feat world cup challenge. We did jump jam, and relays to get our steps up on our pedometers. So far we have done 211km as a class. Hopefully by the end of next week when the soccer world cup starts we will have done 500km! Ronald was massive and scared the life out of Sidney & Mr F!

Middle Syndicate future Black Sticks

Congratulations to the HSS yr3/4 hockey team who won their grade at the tournament last week. A huge thanks to coaches Annie and Tracey for their efforts. Well done!!

One of the coolest days at school ever!

Yesterday (17th May) R18 and Mr Science had such an awesome day. First of all we used dry ice - scary! My buddy and I got dry ice in a plastic pottle. Then we poured in the hot water and...all this steam came overflowing out. The first time we did it people were moving away. It was creepy. After we got used to it we were scooping the steam and pouring it on us. It felt cold. Mr Science then poured bubble mixture and food colouring in and it looked like a blue bubbly volcano! Our class all had to wear safety goggles and he wore a white coat like a crazy scientist. The class then had a rocket flying competion. Ours came third. Flora's came first and she won a lollypop. Finally we blew lots of bubbles! One bounced on my hand. It was so cool! When i went home i told my family about the tremendous time i had had.

Explosions, bubbles and crazy fun with Mr Science!

On the 17th of May we had Mr Science come into Room 18 and teach us science expereiments because Mr F was on CRT. The first thing we did was working with dry ice. Do you know tha dry ice can burn your skin? We put the dry ice in warm water and smoke poured out of the glass. After morning tea he showed us how to make elephants toothpaste. If you want to make this, this is what you will need: white vinegar, baking soda, a bottle, dye and a tray. Then after lunch we made rockets with poles and paper. Finally we did the real rocket blaster compettion! Flora won the lollypop for going the furtherest. It was awesome!!

How fast are you going?

Last week R18s maths class had access to the police speed radar. On a beautiful Wednesday morning we went out and recorded the speeds of vehicles going up and down Van Diemen St. We were pleasantly surprised to find only 1 out of 34 cars recorded going over the 50km speed limit. With our data gathered we worked out the range of speeds (29-60km), median speed (37km) and average speed (43.2km) of the vehicles. It was a cool practical maths experience!
