Globetrotters

Last night I  went and saw the globetrotters they are the best basketball players in the world. There mascot is Globie and his head is a glob.  They did all sorts of cool tricks like standing on the rim, heaps of slam dunks and no look shots.

Our Solar System

We created a super small scale representation of our Solar System using balls, marbles and kids.  See all the small, tightly joined inner planets, then the huge spread out to the larger outer planets.

Science with Garin

Last week we were lucky enough to have a group of kids from Garin College come along and show us how electricity worked.  We used battery packs, wires, and playdough to make bulbs, mini motors and noisy beepers go.  Then they taught us the difference between series circuits and parallel circuits.  Everyone agreed it was one of the best afternoons all year.  Thanks Garin!

Sharing time

For book week, some children from R18 shared some of their favourite books with the rest of the Middle Syndicate.  Thanks Meg, Ella and Amy!

Looking at Van Gogh

To finish off our unit 'Who'd ve Known' last term we looked at the weird and wonderful life on Vincent Van Gogh.  In particular we focused on his painting 'Bedroom in Arles.'  Check out the amazing perspective recreations above.
Then over the holidays some children created bedroom dioramas.

Who'd ve Known?!

We have been learning about members of our family over the last few weeks as part of our class topic.
  • Who'd ve known that Jack H had a great granddad that flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain and won the Grand National horse race.
  • Who'd ve known that Luke's dad used to play cricket with Black Cap legend Chris Cairns!
  • Who'd ve known that Meg's mum has seen Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world!
Come along to R18 and check out the Biography posters we made about these amazing people.

We'll miss you Mr Lean!

On Friday we said goodbye to our student teacher Mr Lean.  He has been a fantastic member of the class for the last 5 weeks and we were sad to see him go.  Good luck for the future Mr Lean, you will make a great teacher!
