Middle Syndicate future Black Sticks

Congratulations to the HSS yr3/4 hockey team who won their grade at the tournament last week. A huge thanks to coaches Annie and Tracey for their efforts. Well done!!

One of the coolest days at school ever!

Yesterday (17th May) R18 and Mr Science had such an awesome day. First of all we used dry ice - scary! My buddy and I got dry ice in a plastic pottle. Then we poured in the hot water and...all this steam came overflowing out. The first time we did it people were moving away. It was creepy. After we got used to it we were scooping the steam and pouring it on us. It felt cold. Mr Science then poured bubble mixture and food colouring in and it looked like a blue bubbly volcano! Our class all had to wear safety goggles and he wore a white coat like a crazy scientist. The class then had a rocket flying competion. Ours came third. Flora's came first and she won a lollypop. Finally we blew lots of bubbles! One bounced on my hand. It was so cool! When i went home i told my family about the tremendous time i had had.

Explosions, bubbles and crazy fun with Mr Science!

On the 17th of May we had Mr Science come into Room 18 and teach us science expereiments because Mr F was on CRT. The first thing we did was working with dry ice. Do you know tha dry ice can burn your skin? We put the dry ice in warm water and smoke poured out of the glass. After morning tea he showed us how to make elephants toothpaste. If you want to make this, this is what you will need: white vinegar, baking soda, a bottle, dye and a tray. Then after lunch we made rockets with poles and paper. Finally we did the real rocket blaster compettion! Flora won the lollypop for going the furtherest. It was awesome!!

How fast are you going?

Last week R18s maths class had access to the police speed radar. On a beautiful Wednesday morning we went out and recorded the speeds of vehicles going up and down Van Diemen St. We were pleasantly surprised to find only 1 out of 34 cars recorded going over the 50km speed limit. With our data gathered we worked out the range of speeds (29-60km), median speed (37km) and average speed (43.2km) of the vehicles. It was a cool practical maths experience!
